VA Combined
Ratings Calculator

Enter each of your service-connected ratings and see what they actually combine to, the VA way. Then find out whether your 100 percent is schedular or TDIU.

Your individual ratings

Add one row per service-connected condition, using the percentage from your rating decision.

What does "bilateral" mean, and does it apply to me?

Bilateral means a rated condition on both sides of a pair: both legs, both arms, or paired muscles. When that happens the VA adds a small bonus, 10 percent of your combined bilateral rating, because losing function on both sides is harder than on one. It can nudge your total up, which matters most when you are sitting close to the 95 line.

  • Counts: nerve pain (radiculopathy) in both legs. A knee condition in both knees. Something rated in both arms or both feet.
  • Does not: a condition on one side only. Two conditions on different, unpaired parts, like your back and your shoulder. Your spine by itself.

Check "bilateral" only on the ratings that are the matched left-and-right pair. If you are not sure, leave it unchecked and ask your accredited representative. The exact rule has edge cases this tool does not try to judge.

Read this This is an estimate to check against your official VA rating decision, not a ruling on your record. VA math has edge cases (the bilateral factor and its exceptions among them). Confirm anything you act on with a VA-accredited attorney who specializes in veterans' benefits, or an accredited VSO.

Found out you are on TDIU? That means there is a line you can cross by accident. The guide shows you where it is.
